The Guelph Royals marked their return to the IBL the same way they departed the league midway through last season: they got demolished by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Racking up runs early and often, the Leafs jumped out to a 9-2 lead after the first three innings of play on Mother's Day at Christie Pits.

The Leafs scored at least one run in each of the first seven innings of play. Player-manager Damon Topolie led the assault with three RBIs from the DH spot. Catcher Mike Reeves knocked in two, and leftfielder Justin Marra, first baseman Julian Johnson, second baseman Dan Marra, and centerfielder Connor Lewis each drove in one run.

Reeves and Justin Marra each homered, and when the dust finally settled the home side cruised to a 14-4 victory.

Zach Sloan earned his second win in two starts. He gave up four runs (two earned) on four hits and four walks while striking out seven. Sloan was relieved by Andrew Simonetti for two scoreless innings. Pedro De Los Santos and Marek Deska wrapped up the eighth and ninth innings respectively.

Guelph 4-5-3
Toronto 14-18-2
