Game 41: Postponed - Maple Leafs @ Hamilton, August 2
The happiest person to see tonight's Toronto Maple Leafs - Hamilton Cardinals game at Bernie Arbour Stadium get rained out was probably Tim Krawczyk, seen above, gazing at the approaching stormclouds.
The Cardinals' starter was knocked around early and the Maple Leafs held a 7-2 lead in the 3rd inning, when a flash of lightning appeared over the city. The home plate umpire immediately called everyone off the field, and it began raining shortly after.
The tarps came out, and a delay of almost an hour ensued. Players huddled in their respective tool sheds. Some bantered on the field or disappeared into the clubhouse, others played bocce. Spectators sought cover behind the grandstand.
The rain steadily worsened, and the game was finally called off.
This is the second washout in three days for the Maple Leafs, wreaking havoc on the final week of the regular season. They are already scheduled to play two make-up games in Guelph on holiday Monday, August 5. They now have this game, and a home game against Kitchener still to play. No word on when those will happen.
