Leafs Fall Short in Kitchener

Game 11: Toronto Maple Leafs @ Kitchener Panthers - June 5, 2014

The Toronto Maple Leafs rallied late in this evening's game at Jack Couch Park, but ultimately fell short to the Kitchener Panthers, 7-5.

Sean Reilly launched a 3-run home run in the first inning to open the scoring for the home side.  The Panthers added runs in each of the next three innings to run up a 7-1 score.  Savage zoology part two.

Darryl Pui (Toronto) and Tanner Nivins (Kitchener) each hit leadoff home runs in the 3rd inning.

Toronto starter James Trebus pitched five innings and struck out six, but he gave up six earned runs for the loss.  Justins Lawrence and Cicatello combined for the final three innings and kept the Panthers from scoring any further.

Adam Echlin pitched the first five innings for Kitchener and earned the win.  He was relieved by David Whiteside for the final four innings.

Toronto rallied in the 9th, taking advantage of three errors to put four runs on the board, but it wasn't enough as Whiteside held on for the save, and the Panthers held off what was almost an epic comeback by the Leafs.

Toronto 5-7-1
Kitchener 7-12-3

W - Echlin (1-1)
L - Trebus (0-2)
S - Whiteside (1)
