The Toronto Maple Leafs' 2017 home opener coincided with Mother's Day, which meant that I was absent from Christie Pits today.

It looks like those of us who missed the game missed one for the ages. Maybe.

The scoreline is typical IBL. One team scored eight runs, the other scored seven. One notable detail is that it took 18 innings of play to determine a winner.

Trying to follow the action online today proved an exercise in frustration. Pointstreak was a hot mess and didn't report the names of anyone in the Leafs' batting order. Hardly anyone was tweeting about the game. I didn't think to turn on Rogers cable before it was too late.

Here then is my best attempt at recreating the stuff that happened at Christie Pits today, based on limited online resources available at press time. It is possible that literally none of this is true. Or all of it is.

Mother's Day.

Christie Pits home opener.

Start of game delayed.

Justin Cicatello on the mound for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Navy jerseys.  Scarlet jerseys.

Tyler Hardie hits a home run.

Leafs put two runs on the board in the fifth.

Cic pitches five scoreless innings, then gives up five runs.

Outrage from the owner's box.

Leafs Twitter is silent. Sox Twitter is silent.

Russia.

Leafs roar back and score five in the seventh.

Top of the ninth, Sox tie it up.

Adorable puppy does cute thing.

7-7 going into extra innings.

Three up, three down, repeat, repeat, repeat.

Creeping shadows.

One weird trick.

Adam Garner pitches a nine inning shutout.

No he didn't.  Maybe it was Adam Odd.

Grant Tamane hits a leadoff double in the bottom of the 18th inning.

Odd drives in the winning run.  Wins game, wins internet.

Leafs win 8-7 LOLZ.

W - Odd (1-0, 0.00)
L - Mombourquette (0-1, 0.00)

BOXSCORE

The Leafs are probably 1-1 now to start the season. Their next game is on the road at Nelson Park against the Burlington Herd. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 pm.
