Can you believe this? We are already halfway through the 2022 IBL season.
With a record of 12-9, the Toronto Maple Leafs sit 5th in the league standings.
In the first half of the season, two clubs battled for first place and as of this morning the London Majors (15-5) and Welland Jackfish (16-6) remain atop the standings.
The Leafs are middle of the pack, with one game separating them from the Guelph Royals and Barrie Baycats.
Further back are the Kitchener Panthers and Hamilton Cardinals, both with losing records in the first half.
Bottom of the league are the winless Brantford Red Sox, whose organization is coping with multiple challenges as covered in this recent article.
Back to the Leafs, those swaggering charmers. This year they have put on some fresh new looks, both with their uniforms and the players wearing them. A huge youth movement and the return of many popular vets has created a 2022 club determined to complete its #UnfinishedBusiness.
Jordan Castaldo and Justin Marra have been terrorizing opposing pitchers and they lead the team in all batting categories. Right behind them, rookie Aidan McAskie is the revelation of the season.
Jose Vinicio has brought spark at the plate and lightning on the basepaths, swiping 10 bases in 16 games.
On the mound, Zach Sloan is the ace of the squad, leading the way in all categories. In June he set the stage for a couple of rare shutouts at the Pits.
The Leafs have thrilled the Christie Crazies with walkoff wins, they have shut down visiting teams and made every Sunday afternoon (and some Wednesday nights) a great escape.
Here is the Leafs' mid-season leaderboard.
