QF Game 2: Brantford Red Sox at Toronto Maple Leafs - August 4, 2016
Leafs win 6-5
Leafs win 6-5
It's even-steven, thanks to Dan, Jon and Justin.
With two outs in the bottom of the 9th, a Marra, a Waltenbury and another Marra hit three singles in a row off Brantford Red Sox reliever Matt Martinow. Justin's hit drove in brother Dan with the winning run in a 6-5 victory for the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 2 of this quarterfinal series.
The winning hit sparked celebrations all around Christie Pits. It also prompted the traditional swarm-and-jostle routine on the infield. Marra's teammates went after him like they were chasing a rare Pokemon.
The Leafs' win ties the series at a game apiece.
This game was even closer than the previous night's walkoff in Telephone City. No team was able to score in big bunches. Instead, they grabbed a run here, a couple there, and hoped the pitching could hold it together.
Starters Brett van Pelt and Riley Barr each lasted seven innings. Neither figured in the final decision, which came as a result of the Leafs' hitting heroics at game's end.
Marek Deska made off with the win after pitching a perfect top of the ninth.
The series resumes with Game 3 on Sunday afternoon at the Pits.
