Panthers win 11-3
A good one to miss?
Scanning last night's boxscore of the Toronto Maple Leafs game at Jack Couch Park, one big round number jumps out. The Kitchener Panthers scored eight runs in the fifth inning en route to an 11-3 drubbing of the visitors. The dreaded One Big Inning™ put the Leafs away.
The Panthers bombed the Leafs for three home runs, two off the bat of Sean Reilly (above) and one from Tanner Nivins. Reilly racked up five RBIs on the night.
Catcher Justin Marra put the Leafs ahead in the top of the first when he smashed a 2-run homer off starter Sean Ratcliffe.
Toronto's lead lasted less than an inning. By the bottom of the first, Kitchener had tied the game. The black cats added one more run in the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 lead, and the game remained tight until the fateful fifth.
Andrew Simonetti took the loss after he was mauled for eight runs off 12 hits. He was relieved in the fifth by Adam Marra, who also got victimized for three runs. Multitasker Adam Odd mopped up in the ninth, but the game was out of reach by then.
The Mapes added a run in the sixth, when third baseman Johnathan Solazzo drove in centerfielder Greg Carrington.
Solazzo and Justin Marra now share the team lead with 12 RBIs on the season. Marra's home run tied him with Tyler Hardie for the team lead with three.
W - Ratcliffe (1-0, 3.95)
L - Simonetti (0-2, 4.86)
