The Barrie Baycats broke their three-game losing streak against the Toronto Maple Leafs with a 5-1 win at Coates Stadium last night.

Kevin Atkinson hit a game-winning two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. It was good enough to hold off the Leafs, who mustered their only run of the game in the eighth inning.

Justin Marra hit a double to drive in Greg Carrington. Apart from that, it was a quiet night at the plate for the visitors. Grant Tamane notched a pair of hits, while Garrett Takamatsu, Adam Odd and Carrington each singled.

The Leafs borrowed from the notes of the Tampa Bay Rays and sent closer Andrew Simonetti to the mound to start the game. He went six innings, giving up six hits, a walk and two earned runs while striking out one. It was Simonetti's first loss of the season.

Toronto 1-6-1
Barrie 5-8-1

W - Garces (1-0, 0.00)
L - Simonetti (0-1, 4.00)

BOXSCORE

With a 9-5 record, the Leafs sit in third place in the IBL standings, one game behind the Kitchener Panthers. The next game for the V-necks is back home at Christie Pits this Sunday, June 17. They will welcome the Guelph Royals for a Father's Day battle.
