On a hot Sunday afternoon in the cauldron of Christie Pits, the Toronto Maple Leafs failed to cook up another comeback win.

Trailing by six runs in the bottom of the ninth, they rallied for two against the Guelph Royals, but left the bases loaded in an 11-7 final. Yesterday, their goose was cooked.

Five different pitchers shared the workload for the day. Starter Zach Sloan only went three innings, before being followed by Dustin Richardson, Pedro De Los Santos, Adam Marra and Jackson Jones. It was De Los Santos who took the loss, and the brunt of a 12-hit day by the Royals. He gave up seven hits and five earned runs while walking none and striking out three.

Grant Tamane and Marcus Knecht led the Leafs at the plate. They each got two hits and two RBIs, including a two-run homer by Knecht in the sixth. Johnathan Solazzo also drove in two runs.

Guelph 11-12-2
Toronto 7-10-2

W - Javier (2-3, 4.54)
L - De Los Santos (2-1, 4.88)
S - Yambatis (1)

BOXSCORE

The Leafs continue to hold a share of third place in the IBL standings, 2.5 games behind the Kitchener Panthers. The Leafs begin a road trip this Wednesday night, June 20th, when they visit the Brantford Red Sox at Arnold Anderson Stadium.
