Scenes From a Thunderstorm

IBL Quarterfinals - Game 1 - August 24, 2023
Guelph Royals at Toronto Maple Leafs

Game postponed due to weather

Pulling the plug: with the game in a weather delay and a pessimistic forecast before them, the grand dukes of Toronto (John Raddi and Rob Butler) and Guelph (Dino Roumel) discuss a revised series schedule before sending everyone home.

Tonight's opening game of the quarterfinal series between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Guelph Royals has been "postponed", quoting the language used by both clubs.

The announcements came around 9:40 pm, following a 30-minute delay caused by a slow-moving thunderstorm over Christie Pits.

Play was halted in the bottom of the fifth inning with the Leafs trailing 2-0.

A revised series schedule will be announced on the morrow.  The initial word was that Game 2 will be played as scheduled Saturday in Guelph, and Game 1 would be resumed on Sunday at Christie Pits prior to the scheduled Game 3 that day.

Until everything gets confirmed, here are some scenes from a thunderstorm.

Everyone leaves the field after the game was placed in a delay.

Outside the team clubhouses, players and fans mingled while waiting out the storm.

Back on the diamond, Toronto's Yoichi Ishihara played catch with Guelph's batboy Gavin Mackenzie.
